Assist the head coach in the oversight and management of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Program. (Served as Interim Head Coach while pursuing a Masters Degree) Coordinate all recruiting and travel responsibilities, along with all practice and game-day planning—graduate in Masters in Sports and Wellness Leadership in 2020.

7 - San Antonio Tennis Lesson Coach: John R. Newman

A native San Antonian, and a graduate of Jefferson High School, Newman and his then partner James Moses reached the number five junior ranking by the US Lawn Tennis Association. In college, he was on the first of the great men’s teams at Trinity University in San Antonio. He played for four years there and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
His playing career has included stints on both the United States and European circuits. He has won four Texas Open titles in his home state, one in singles and three in doubles with his brother Butch, the former Trinity coach. Newman also has won a singles title in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation. He has played in three US Open Championships.
His coaching career began right at home as the men’s assistant and women’s head coach for 12 years at Trinity. He then spent four years as the men’s coach at the University of Tennessee and six years at Vanderbilt University as the men’s coach where he started the program. In 1990 he returned home to serve as the associate coach at Incarnate Word before moving to the head job in 1991.
Newman has been inducted into the UIW Hall of Fame and is the only three-time Trinity University Hall of Famer as a player, women’s coach and men’s coach.

8 - San Antonio Tennis Lesson Coach: Elizabeth Dausin

Born in Del Rio, she spent much of her childhood in San Antonio, graduating from McCollum High School.A St. Mary’s graduate, Dausin has always had tennis in her blood. She played tennis, basketball and softball at St. Mary’s.
She graduated in 1979 with an education degree with a teacher’s certification. She went on to get her master’s degree in education at Southwest Texas State in 1983. She later completed her coursework for another master’s degree in counselling at Texas-San Antonio in 1998.
She’s currently the head coach for St. Mary’s. Before that, Dausin served for 12 years as the Assistant Athletics Director for Northside ISD before returning to teaching this past school year, when she taught at Warren High School in San Antonio and coached middle-school tennis.
The first female hired in the school district’s athletics office, Dausin served as an extension of the athletics director, overseeing coaches’ hiring and doing legal work about athletics personnel, among other duties. Before moving into the athletics office at Northside ISD, she worked at Marshall High School, coaching tennis and assisting other sports from 1980-1994. In 1995, she became the school’s Girls Coordinator.
