Al DuFaux, a 1973 graduate from the University of Missouri (also holds a master’s degree from MU), is the current head coach at the University of Tampa.

Before coming to Tampa, DuFaux coached at Tampa Gaither High School. He has also worked as an umpire with the United States Tennis Association and as a referee for junior events. Among the WTA events, DuFaux has officiated for tennis stars such as Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, Monica Seles, Anna Kournikova and Jennifer Capriati.

In addition to coaching and umpiring, DuFaux is certified with the United State Professional Tennis Registry, United States Tennis Association and the United States Racquet Stringers Association, and works as a community tennis instructor Meadow Point.

Among the players DuFaux has coached at UT include all-time singles win leader Caitlin Scudder and Heather Eli. Heather ranks second on the all-time singles wins chart. Scudder is also third on the all-time doubles wins list. He also led the Spartans into the national rankings. He placed the program’s first singles player (Thashia Garcia) and doubles team (Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski) in the national rankings in 2013. The highest all-time Tampa tennis ranking of 14th in the nation was achieved during the 2013 season. Current UT player Corbin Dorsey ranked 45th nationally in singles in 2019.

Shull, who has two master’s degrees and a doctorate, retired in 1999 from travelling the world as an organizational development consultant for Marathon Oil.

In 2001, he started coaching tennis. Now, as a stay-at-home dad with a 2-year-old son, he teaches about 10 hours a week for Tampa’s Parks and Recreation Department at the Himes Avenue Sports Complex.

Shull charges a drop-in fee of $10 for kids and adults to show up and play at one of his eight classes each week. He focuses on skills, conditioning (all muscle groups, especially core and legs), games and fun. As a rule of thumb, 20 to 40 minutes in a cardio zone getshis students in good condition.

For adults, he works on their backhand or serves. With kids, it’s a trick shot. Like underneath one leg or hitting with their back to the net. He also has them catching a ball on their racket and not bounce it. Sometimes they actually end up using it in a game.

Gary holds more than 25 years of experience in all facets of sports, primarily coaching and program/facility management, with established careers in sports media relations and journalism. His current focus is winning an NCAA Division I National Title with the USF Bulls Men’s Tennis Team. Also sending hisstudents off to enjoy long and prosperous professional tennis careers with a college degree.

His accomplishments include building from scratch the most extensive private club summer tennis camp in the Tampa Bay area and developing a supplemental full-day sports camp at the same location.

He revitalized through sound management two floundering tennis facilities and trained players who went on to win professional, collegiate and sectional championships. He has also helped more than 30 players earn college athletic scholarships in multiple sports. Coached on the recreational, Division I college and professional tennis levels and been featured numerous times in various trade magazines. For more than 10 years, he volunteered weekly as a reading/writing tutor at a local elementary school. He hosted annual free tennis clinics at many local schools.

A native of New South Wales, Australia, Fisher earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas Christian University in 1998. He was a two-time NCAA All-American, ranked No. 1 nationally in doubles, and reached the doubles final in the 1996 NCAA Championships during his four-year career with the Horned Frogs. He also served as team captain for a TCU team ranked No. 3 in the nation.

Ashley Fisher (born 25 September 1975) is a professional tennis player from New South Wales in Australia. Fisher turned professional in 1998. Fisher won four notable doubles titles on the ATP tour. The doubles specialist reached his highest doubles ranking of World Number 19 on 22 June 2009. He has reached the 2006 U.S. Open men’s doubles semi-finals. Fisher is currently the head coach of the University of South Florida men’s tennis team.

Mike is currently the Tennis Director at Countryside Golf and Country Club and Head Boy’s & Girl’s Tennis Coach for Calvary High School in Clearwater, Florida. Originally from Southern Indiana, Mike played Division I tennis for the University of Evansville and Oakland City University before graduating with a degree in Biology and earning a Masters in Business Management. After graduating from FSU in 1995, Hyde began her coaching career as an assistant for the Seminoles before heading north to the University of Iowa in 1995. Hyde spent two years in the Midwest before returning to the south with an assistant coaching stint at the University of Alabama (1997-98).

Hyde moved on to coach at the University of North Carolina in 1998-99, where she established herself as one of the best young coaches in the sport. With her assistance, UNC enjoyed one of its best seasons in program history, moving from outside all the national polls to a top-25 ranking and the school’s first NCAA tournament berth.

In addition to building the tennis program, Hyde has spearheaded a unique partnership with FSU Women’s Tennis and the FSU Student Veteran and military community with quarterly clinics and hit around with the tennis team student veterans on campus.
